Unbeatable Dundee United continued their perfect start to the Scottish Premiership season with a convincing 1-0 win over Motherwell at Tannadice Park on Saturday.
The Red Devils, who have now won all four of their opening fixtures this term, took the lead through a well-worked goal in the 57th minute. A cross from the left was headed into the path of striker Joe Hartley, who finished calmly past keeper Craig Gordon to give his team the lead.
Motherwell, who had only lost once in their previous 22 matches in all competitions, were unable to find a way back into the game and were ultimately unable to equalise. The victory means that United remain top of the table with seven points from just three games, while Motherwell slip to third place after their defeat.
It was a dominant display from the hosts, who created numerous chances throughout the match and looked set to extend their lead before the final whistle. However, they were unable to convert those opportunities and were ultimately punished by a clinical performance from their opponents.
United will be keen to build on this victory as they look to maintain their perfect record in the league, while Motherwell will need to bounce back from this defeat if they are to avoid dropping further down the table. As it stands, the race for the top spots remains tight and every point is crucial for both sides.
